One hundred and fifty persons have benefited from a multi-million naira empowerment programme sponsored by the lawmaker representing Obingwa West constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna-Erondu, Jnr.
The items which include motorcycles and buses among others were handed over to the beneficiaries as part of activities to mark Uchenna-Erondu’s birthday celebration at Umuaro in Obingwa local government area.
In his address, Uchenna-Erondu explained that the programme was part of his broader commitment to improving the economic wellbeing of the people through sustainable opportunities
The sponsor of the programme also emphasized that empowering youths, women and vulnerable members of society remains central to his vision of community development.
The chairman of the House Committee on Civil Service Matter also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the state in the 2027 election.
Speaking, the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, represented by Emma Eke said such programmes go along way to create employment and self-reliance, and reduce youth restiveness.
Similarly, the country’s ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Spain and former governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu stressed the importance and lauded Uchenna-Erondu for the programme.
Represented by his wife, Nkechi Ikpeazu, he commended the growing spirit of political collaboration among leaders seeking to improve the lives of ordinary citizens in the state.
In his address, the state chairman of the APC, Chijioke Chukwu, described Uchenna-Erondu, who has served the state in many capacities as a rare leader committed to the development of his people.
Other speakers were former deputy governor of the state, Chris Akomas, Sam Nkire, Nkechi Nwaogu, Emeka Onyenso, Chris Enweremadu, Uzor Azubuike, and Nyerere Anyim among others.
Earlier, the chairman of the organising committee of the occasion, Chidiebere Ihenyirimadu, in his address, commended the lawmaker for his sustained commitment to grassroots empowerment.
Another major high point of the occasion was the show of political unity in the state as the APC, the Peoples Democratic Party, and others converged under what they described as “Rainbow Coalition.”
