Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in education and youth development as a strategy to curb insecurity and drive sustainable growth in Adamawa State.
Fintiri made this known while receiving the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, at the Government House in Yola. He expressed appreciation to the Turkish government for its support to internally displaced persons (IDPs), particularly through the provision of food and non-food items, as well as its partnership in the education sector.
The governor disclosed that over 100 students from Adamawa State are currently studying in Turkey and performing well academically. He added that the state government plans to sponsor more students and expand opportunities for young people through education and skills acquisition programmes.
Fintiri also highlighted the establishment of a School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the state, aimed at equipping youths with practical, job-ready skills. He called for deeper collaboration with Turkey to strengthen skill acquisition centres and broaden development opportunities.
In his remarks, Ambassador Poroy reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in tackling insecurity and assisting displaced populations. He revealed that the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency is planning to establish an office in Abuja to enhance development cooperation and improve vocational training programmes across the country.
The ambassador further disclosed that he visited the Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons camp, where he participated in the distribution of food relief items to vulnerable families.
