Popular TikTok creator Hamzat Habeeb Adelaja, better known as Peller, has come under heavy fire from TVC News following comments he made about the financial capacity of Nigerian civil servants.
The controversy began after Peller returned from a luxury vacation in the Maldives with his girlfriend and fellow influencer, Jarvis.
During a livestream, the content creator revealed he spent over ₦30 million on the getaway and claimed visitors must have at least $10,000 in cash to enter the country.

Based on these costs, Peller boldly stated that the destination is beyond the reach of any Nigerian civil servant, a remark that has since sparked a heated national debate.

TVC News addressed the comments during a studio segment, where a panel of presenters described Peller’s stance as “insensitive,” “rude,” and “out of touch.” The broadcasters defended the dignity of government workers, with one panellist noting that Peller was “denigrating” an honourable profession.

“A lot of Nigerian civil servants can afford that trip ten times over,” one male guest argued, suggesting that Peller’s assumptions about the wealth of all government employees were incorrect.

Another female presenter was more blunt, stating she doesn’t take the entertainer seriously. “He just opens his mouth and speaks without thinking,” she said.
She further criticised Peller for not showing the same level of excitement for Nigerian tourism during his local tours, adding, “When they come to you to pay tax now… You start crying. He needs to do better.”

The broadcast has triggered a massive divide on social media.
While many viewers agreed with the TVC panel that the comments were disrespectful to the nation’s workforce, Peller’s supporters rushed to his defence.

Supporters argue that the young streamer was pointing out the “harsh economic reality” facing the average Nigerian worker, whose monthly salary would make a ₦30 million vacation an impossible dream. They viewed the TVC segment as an unfair attack on a young creator for just speaking a “bitter truth” about the country’s current economy.
