Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has admitted that playing at Stamford Bridge remains one of the toughest challenges in English football, as his team prepares for a crucial Premier League away fixture against Chelsea this weekend.
The long-standing rivalry between Chelsea and Manchester United has often produced tightly contested matches, but recent history at Stamford Bridge has tilted heavily in the Blues’ favor.
Chelsea are currently unbeaten in their last five home league meetings with United, a streak that includes a thrilling 4–3 win in 2024 and a hard-fought 1–0 victory in May 2025.
Overall, United have managed just one win in their last 12 top-flight visits to West London—a dismal record that Carrick is eager to overturn.
However, the dynamic has shifted at Old Trafford, where United claimed a 2–1 win over Chelsea earlier this season in September.
Carrick’s side now has the opportunity to secure their first league double over Chelsea since 2020.
Despite Chelsea’s strong home record in this fixture, the Blues enter the match struggling for consistency. United, by contrast, sit seven points and three places above their rivals in the league table, giving them a clear psychological edge.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference (via Chelsea Chronicle), Carrick avoided extensive commentary on Chelsea’s current form, instead reflecting on the history between the two clubs.
“It’s an important game. We’re in a good position, but we need to keep building on that,” he said. “It’s a tough place to go, and we always have difficult games down there. Most of the time, they’ve been good games in terms of the product. We’ll be ready for that, and we take confidence from what we’ve built.”
He added: “We didn’t get the result against Leeds, but certainly the way we finished the game and the character we showed—we need to take that into this match.”
