Anyanwu Was Never Suspended As PDP Secretary, Says Wike-Backed PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed reports suggesting that its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, was ever suspended from the party.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the party clarified that while Anyanwu did file an appeal, it was not related to any suspension, contrary to widespread media reports.

According to the statement, the legal action originated from a case filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja. The suit challenged the competence and proceedings of a disciplinary committee formerly chaired by Tom Ikimi. The PDP noted that the committee merely recommended a suspension, which was never ratified by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) or National Executive Committee (NEC).

“The recommendation had no binding effect, and no valid suspension existed at any time,” the statement emphasized.

The party further explained that the disciplinary committee itself had been dissolved after it was found to have been constituted in violation of the PDP Constitution. As such, its recommendations were ბათ and carried no legal weight.

It also clarified that the January 2026 judgment delivered by Justice Halilu of the FCT High Court did not affirm any suspension. Instead, the court dismissed the case for lack of jurisdiction, ruling that internal party disciplinary matters are not justiciable.

The PDP disclosed that the appeal filed on April 10, 2026, was done inadvertently and has now been directed to be withdrawn, as it is no longer necessary.

Additionally, the party noted that Anyanwu and other individuals mentioned in the reports had already completed their tenure in office last year.

Reaffirming its legal standing, the PDP referenced an earlier Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, which upheld the composition of its National Caretaker Committee and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize it. The party also maintained that its Abuja National Convention held on March 29 and 30, 2026, was conducted in line with valid court judgments and under INEC supervision.

The party urged media organizations to verify and properly contextualize their reports, warning that misleading narratives could create unnecessary confusion among the public.

It reassured Nigerians and party stakeholders of its commitment to rebuilding and repositioning itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
