The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) national vice chairman, South East zone, Pastor Augustine Ihemere, has bemoaned the party for not fielding a presidential candidate during elections, saying this is seriously affecting the growth of the party.

Ihemere who spoke to LEADERSHIP in Awka, Anambra State, insisted that after the coming 2027 general election, the party leadership would review the policy of not fielding a presidential candidate during election arguing that the action was affecting the growth of the party especially in the South East zone of the country.

He also urged the people of the South East zone to be prepared to rally round the APGA in the coming general election by voting for all the party’s candidates in the various positions, advising them not to repeat the mistake made in 2023 general election when they embraced the Labour Party (LP) instead of APGA because of the former’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

The APGA’s South East national vice-chairman predicted that Peter Obi might not even emerge as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) citing the internal leadership crisis within the party and the incumbency powers he stated was being deployed by the presidency to stop Obi from contesting in the election.

Ihemere described APGA as the only veritable political platform the South East should throw support upon to use it to negotiate political power with people of other regions so as to get the zone’s fair share in the nation’s political power dynamics.

He stated that the reason why he convened the APGA South East Stakeholders meeting in Awka at the weekend was for the party leadership to brainstorm on how the party could capture the zone in the coming general election.
