The inaugural Lagos State All Styles Karate Masters Workshop 2026 has been widely hailed as a resounding success, drawing over 133 participants from across Nigeria in a landmark gathering of martial arts expertise and collaboration.

Held in Lagos, the workshop brought together an impressive mix of masters, instructors and practitioners representing diverse karate styles. The initiative was designed to standardise training methods, encourage cross-style interaction and enhance the technical development of practitioners within the state.

The opening day featured a series of intellectually stimulating lectures delivered by renowned experts, including Dr Jack Mbom and Kyoshi Brasca Ifeadi. Their presentations explored not only the physical dimensions of karate but also its philosophical underpinnings, such as discipline, leadership and mental resilience.

Participants also engaged with key topics including athlete development, officiating standards and the evolving role of karate in modern society.

The second day shifted focus to practical training, offering participants a rare opportunity to learn directly from some of the most respected figures in Nigerian and African karate. Distinguished masters such as Hanshi G.O. Goby (China), Shihan Mavie Emechete-Attoh, and Shihan Alfred Ohimain led intensive sessions, supported by other senior practitioners.

A standout feature of the workshop was its inclusivity, with participants ranging from seasoned masters to young students. The strong presence of youth practitioners was particularly notable, as they benefited from direct mentorship and exposure to high-level training techniques.

Organisers have confirmed plans to make the workshop an annual event, with ambitions to expand its reach and attract international participation in future editions. The success of this maiden programme is expected to play a significant role in advancing the growth and development of karate in Lagos and beyond.
