Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been named the Financial Architect Governor of the Year 2026 by Daily Independent Newspaper.
The award followed what organisers described as a rigorous three-stage selection process involving public voting, a panel of judges and the newspaper’s board of editors.
Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Steve Omanufeme, said Yusuf emerged top among several nominees after scaling through all evaluation stages.
According to him, the selection process culminated in Lagos during the golden jubilee celebration of the newspaper, where the governor was officially announced winner of the prestigious award.
The award ceremony, held at Eko Hotel and Suites, saw the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, receive the honour on behalf of the governor.
In a statement issued by Waiya, the award was attributed to Yusuf’s fiscal discipline and financial prudence, which he said had transformed the state’s revenue profile.
The newspaper noted that Kano’s internally generated revenue rose significantly under the current administration—from between N37 billion and N40 billion in 2023 to over N100 billion by the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
It added that the improvement placed Kano ahead of several peer states in revenue generation, attributing the feat to deliberate reforms and efficient management of public resources.
The statement further said the governor’s performance had strengthened public trust, driven by the execution of infrastructure projects and prudent utilisation of state funds.
