In a continued effort to disrupt the supply of illicit substances in Cross River State and across Nigeria, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Cross River State Command, have carried out a major raid on 25 April 2026 and destroyed 8 hectares of cannabis sativa farm that was worth millions of naira.

The operation targeted an 8-hectare Cannabis Sativa farm located in Uyanga Community, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River.

The raid was conducted with critical support from soldiers of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

This collaboration between NDLEA and military personnel has become a recurring strategy for tackling large-scale drug cultivation in the state’s forested areas.

During the destruction of the farm, officers recovered 170kg of Cannabis Sativa that was already being processed for distribution.

The seizure represents a substantial interruption to the local drug supply chain.

This operation follows a similar exercise carried out earlier this month. On 16 April 2026, NDLEA operatives, also aided by the 13 Brigade, destroyed 6 hectares of Cannabis Sativa at Uwet Community, also in the Akamkpa local government area.

The two operations, which occurred within nine days of each other in the same LGA, signal sustained pressure on illegal cannabis farmers in Cross River State. Akamkpa has emerged as a focal point for NDLEA enforcement activities.

Reacting to the latest success, the Cross River State Commander of NDLEA, CN Anteyi John KSJI, CPSM, MITD, FIMC, commended the dedication of both NDLEA officers and Army personnel involved. He praised their coordination and commitment to the mission.

Commander Anteyi John further assured Nigerians, especially residents of Cross River State, of the agency’s resolve to disrupt the drug chain.

He stated that under the leadership of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), CON, OFR, the NDLEA will continue to fulfil its mandate.

The Commander reaffirmed that keeping Nigerian streets free of illicit drugs remains a top priority.

“The agency plans to sustain these joint operations to dismantle cultivation networks and reduce the availability of illegal substances”. Anteyi stated.
