The Arewa Think Tank has said the recent allegations against presidential political adviser, Ibrahim Masari, were baseless and politically driven to undermine his growing influence in the North-West.
In a statement signed by its convener, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, the group refuted claims linking Masari to the exit of former minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, also from the North West.
“Masari remains a committed public servant whose efforts continue to strengthen unity and political cooperation between the North and the presidency,” the statement added. “His appointment as political adviser will boost votes for President Tinubu in the North-west come 2027.”
While critics had alleged that Masari orchestrated Dangiwa’s removal and warned of possible political backlash for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, the Arewa Think Tank described such claims as “unfounded, mischievous, and lacking in substance.”
According to Yakubu, “The fact is that Masari has been the glue and the gum cementing the relationship between Asiwaju and the North. Over the past two to three years, he has played a pivotal role in bringing the North completely into President Tinubu’s fold.”
The group emphasised that Masari’s contributions to strengthening political ties between the presidency and the North-West region have been significant and widely acknowledged by key stakeholders across the region.
Reacting to the controversy surrounding Dangiwa’s exit, the Arewa Think Tank urged the former minister to accept his removal in good faith, noting that cabinet reshuffles are a normal feature of governance.
“Dangiwa is not the first minister to be dropped since the inception of this administration. Others before him accepted their fate with dignity and refrained from making negative comments. He should not start something he cannot finish.” Yakubu stated.
The group further dismissed allegations of corruption and abuse of office leveled against Masari, including claims of extravagant asset acquisitions and improper political dealings, describing them as “wild accusations without credible evidence.”
Yakubu warned against attempts to discredit individuals working closely with the president, stressing that such actions could distract from the administration’s broader developmental goals
The Arewa Think Tank reaffirmed its confidence in Masari’s integrity and loyalty, urging Nigerians to disregard what it termed a coordinated smear campaign.
