Chris Evans is set to join the cast of the upcoming crime thriller ‘My Darling California’, the next feature from writer-director Elijah Bynum, known for ‘Magazine Dreams’, Deadline has said.
The film already boasts a strong ensemble including Jessica Chastain, Chris Pine, Mikey Madison, Charles Melton and Don Cheadle.
Evans steps into the role previously assigned to Josh Brolin, who exited the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Set in 1980s Los Angeles, ‘My Darling California’ follows how one crime intertwines the lives of a television host, his restless wife, a country music star, two small-time criminals and an ex-con all chasing the dream of a better life.
Production is expected to begin in late summer, likely around September.
Production company Anton is fully financing the movie and will continue international sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival market. Anton and CAA Media Finance are jointly handling U.S. and global rights.
Producers attached to the project include David Hinojosa, Alex Coco and Sébastien Reybaud, while Zach Nutman will serve as executive producer.
