The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony was held on Monday night in London, rather than its traditional home in Paris, in honour of 70 years since Sir Stanley Matthews’ triumph. The night celebrated the best of world football after a memorable year that included the FIFA World Cup, with awards presented for the best players, young talents, goalkeepers, coaches and clubs in both the men’s and women’s game.
It was a historic night for England, as Harry Kane became the first Englishman in 25 years to win the prestigious prize, following in the footsteps of Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen.
He was joined at the top by Spanish midfield star Alexia Putellas, who claimed her third Women’s Ballon d’Or title.
