The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening humanitarian coordination in Adamawa State following a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration, and Humanitarian Services (RRR&HS), Hon. Bello Hamman Diram.
The ICRC delegation, led by the Head of Sub-Delegation, Mr. Chadi Sidhom, met with the Commissioner at the Ministry’s headquarters in Yola on Tuesday, with discussions focused on enhancing collaboration and improving the delivery of humanitarian assistance across the state.
Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Diram emphasized the Ministry’s role as the central coordinating body for humanitarian interventions in Adamawa. He noted that the government remains committed to providing a unified framework that ensures effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of programmes in partnership with development agencies.
He stressed that improved coordination among stakeholders is critical to avoiding duplication of efforts, ensuring efficient use of resources, and delivering timely assistance to vulnerable populations affected by displacement and conflict.
In his remarks, Mr. Sidhom said the ICRC is currently implementing interventions in key sectors, including water, sanitation and hygiene (WATHAP), protection, economic security (ECOSEC), and health. He added that the organisation’s activities are concentrated in the worst-affected northern parts of the state.
Both parties also explored opportunities to deepen collaboration, particularly in supporting conflict-affected communities, advancing rehabilitation efforts, and promoting sustainable reintegration programmes.
The meeting concluded with the presentation of the Adamawa State Homegrown Durable Solutions Action Plan and the newly launched Integrated Humanitarian Coordination Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to the ICRC delegation.
