The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has sent emissaries to the Edo State deputy governor, Dennis Idahosa, to commiserate with him and his family over the demise of his mother, Madam Esther Imaguomwanruo Idahosa.
The royal delegation, led by the Obasogie of Benin Kingdom, Chief George Igiewhin Ekhator Obasogie, and the Obazulu of Benin Kingdom, Chief Osaro Idah, paid a condolence visit to the deputy governor on behalf of the monarch.
Receiving the emissaries, Idahosa expressed appreciation to the Benin monarch for identifying with his family in their moment of grief.
In a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Mr Friday Aghedo, the deputy governor described the monarch’s gesture as a demonstration of compassion and fatherly support.
“On behalf of my family, I thank the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II for identifying with us, his subjects, at a time like this, based on the demise of our mother, Madam Esther Imaguomwanruo Idahosa.
“Today, the Oba in his magnanimity has sent prominent chiefs from the palace to console us. We are indeed very grateful.
“On behalf of the family, I use this rare opportunity to inform him that in line with my mother’s last wish, her Christian funeral rites would take place in Benin City, from May 8-10, 2026.
“I appeal to our revered monarch to please put my family in prayers as we prepare to give our departed mother a befitting burial.”
