The Niger State government has announced a substantial financial incentive for Niger Tornadoes Football Club, offering a N2 million bonus to the squad ahead of their pivotal Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 36 encounter against Kwara United. This significant boost was revealed on Thursday in Minna by Danjuma Abdul Masu, the Chairman of the state’s Sports Commission, as the team prepares for a crucial fixture that could determine their survival in the top flight.
The Ikon Allah Boys are set to host Kwara United at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna this coming Sunday. In a detailed breakdown of the bonus structure, Abdul Masu pledged that individual players will receive N100,000 for every goal scored or assist provided during the match. Furthermore, the technical crew, vital to the team’s strategy and preparation, stands to gain N500,000, while the dedicated support staff, whose efforts often go unsung, will be awarded N100,000.
Abdul Masu emphasised that the primary objective of this generous incentive is to significantly boost the players’ morale and instil a winning mentality as they head into this critical game. Niger Tornadoes currently find themselves in a precarious position, sitting 14th in the NPFL table with 43 points, a mere three points above the dreaded relegation zone. A victory against Kwara United would provide a much-needed buffer and significantly enhance their chances of retaining their Premier League status for the next season, making this financial motivation a timely and strategic move by the state government.
