Igoche Mark Wants Maktown Flyers To Stay Resilient Despite BAL Setback

Basketball promoter and founder of the Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship, Mr Igoche Mark, has urged Nigeria’s representatives, Maktown Flyers, to remain resolute following their third consecutive defeat at the ongoing Basketball Africa League (BAL) tournament in Rabat, Morocco.

Mark, who was among the Nigerian contingent at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Indoor Hall on Friday in Rabat, Morocco, watched as the Flyers fell 86–77 to Tunisia’s Club Africain. Despite a bright start to the match, the Nigerian champions could not sustain their momentum against the North African side.

The Flyers had begun their Sahara Conference campaign on a promising note with an opening-day victory over JCA Kings, raising hopes of a strong showing. However, three successive defeats have since dimmed their prospects of advancing to the next phase of the competition.

Addressing the team after the game, Mark encouraged the players not to be defined by the setbacks.

“Defeat is not the end of the road; it is a teacher,” Mark said. “The true measure of a champion is not how he celebrates victory, but how he responds to adversity. You have shown flashes of brilliance here in Rabat. Take those positives, learn from the experience, and come back stronger.”

Quoting Winston Churchill, he added: > “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
This quote emphasises that neither winning nor losing should be seen as the ultimate outcome; instead, true strength lies in the perseverance to keep trying.

Mark urged the Flyers to use the lessons from the BAL as a foundation to “reset and relaunch” for future competitions, stressing that Nigeria’s basketball future remains bright if young teams embrace discipline and persistence.

“This tournament may not have gone as planned, but your journey is just beginning,” he told the players. “Hold your heads high. You carried Nigeria’s flag with pride.”
