Moffi, Sanusi Win Portuguese League Title With Porto

Super Eagles stars, Terem Moffi and Zaidu Sanusi, have won the 2025/2026 Portuguese league title with FC Porto.

In a tense, hard-fought battle against underdogs Alverca, FC Porto secured a gritty 1-0 victory that proved enough to mathematically seal the championship with two full matchdays still to play.

The solitary goal a scrappy, deflected strike in the 67th minute—sent the home crowd into a frenzy, but it was the defensive resolve led by the ever-reliable Sanusi that truly preserved the historic night.

For Francesco Fariolli, the meticulous Italian tactician who has reshaped Porto into a winning machine, this was the crowning achievement of his tenure. His side had shown maturity beyond their years, grinding out results even when not at their flowing best.

While the celebration was collective, two Nigerian stars stood at the heart of the story. Zaidu Sanusi, the dynamic left-back who has become a cult hero at the Dragão, lifted his second Portuguese league trophy with Porto. Having previously tasted success in the 2021/2022 season, Sanusi has now etched his name into the club’s modern folklore.

His relentless running, crunching tackles, and intelligent positioning were on full display against Alverca, as he neutralized every attacking threat down his flank. After the match, a beaming Sanusi held the trophy aloft and simply said, “Once a Dragon, always a Dragon. This is for the fans who never stopped believing.”

But perhaps no one’s joy was more palpable than that of Terem Moffi. The powerful forward arrived at Porto on loan from Ligue 1 side OGC Nice in the dark days of January, brought in to add firepower and physical presence to Fariolli’s attack.

Many questioned whether a mid-season loanee could adapt quickly enough to make a difference in a title race. Moffi answered every doubt with hard work and crucial goals.

Though he didn’t find the net on the championship-clinching night, his hold-up play and tireless pressing helped wear down a stubborn Alverca defense. When the final whistle blew, Moffi was seen embracing Sanusi, tears mixing with sweat on his face.

For the 26-year-old, this was his first major piece of silverware in European football a moment he had chased across France without ever quite grasping.

The victory marked Porto’s 31st Portuguese league championship, further cementing their status as the second-most successful club in the nation’s history, trailing only their bitter rivals Benfica.
