Nigerian singer and songwriter Skales, born Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, has disclosed that he lost out on a lucrative $300,000 jewellery deal linked to a young footballer, offering fresh insight into the financial advantages athletes enjoy beyond the pitch.

Speaking during a recent interview, the artiste explained that the opportunity slipped away despite its significant value, underscoring the scale of endorsement deals accessible to footballers. He used the experience to illustrate what he described as the stark contrast between earnings in the music industry and professional football.

According to Skales, footballers benefit from more dependable income streams, even without global recognition. He argued that consistent performance in sport often guarantees financial stability, unlike music, which he characterised as uncertain and seasonal.

The singer further remarked that success in music frequently depends on sustained relevance and what he described as a near “divine” factor, making it harder for many artistes to achieve lasting financial security. By contrast, he suggested that footballers can steadily accumulate wealth without necessarily attaining widespread fame.

Skales concluded by noting that only a limited number of Nigerian musicians reach comparable financial heights, with many continuing to face economic challenges despite their efforts in the industry.
