Jigawa State government has empowered the state chapter of the Tipper Operators Association with equipment, including excavators and conveyor vehicles, worth over N488 million.
While presenting the equipment, Governor Malam Umar Namadi said the empowerment package was part of his government’s effort and determination to reward hardworking men and women, fight poverty and empower people through their own businesses.
He noted that similar empowerment packages were given to the association of butchers and road transport workers, and so far, good repayment has been recorded.
“The returns from previous loans have encouraged us to do more, and this occasion today is another turning point in our quest to promote job creation and poverty eradication.
“In this mission, we are collaborating with the Bank of Industry and other financial institutions to facilitate access to grants for every business person, individually or in a group, to enhance their business,” the governor stated.
Speaking at the occasion, the manager of the Bank of Industry, Jigawa State branch, Mr Mannir Umar Muhammad said the Jigawa State Government is one of the critical partners with a very good plan and approach in supporting small, medium, and large enterprises.
“In 2024, the Jigawa State Government deposited N1 billion in our bank to support businesses in the state, and so far we have disbursed over N1.4 billion in grants to over 120 enterprises in the state.
“We also disbursed over N300 million under our rural micro-business grant, and the programme has positively stimulated the economy and productivity of the beneficiaries.” Branch Manager BON stated.
In his speech, the director-general of the Economic Empowerment Directorate said the programme was part of the 12-point agenda of Governor Malam Umar Namadi for job creation and poverty eradication. “I am optimistic that in the near future, poverty will be reduced to the barest minimum level in Jigawa State,” the DG declared.
In his remarks, the chairman of the Association of Tipper Operators, Jigawa State chapter, Alhaji Muttala Aliyu, thanked the governor for giving them the empowerment package. He added that the grant would boost their jobs and also increase their income and that of other people along the value chain of tipper operations.
