The late Matthew Omodayo Owotuga Foundation has made a contribution of N204 million towards advancing community development, promoting academic excellence, and enhancing economic empowerment.
A key highlight of this year’s remembrance event was the official handover of the Bodunwa Elizabeth Omodayo Owotuga Hall to the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in Ondo State. This facility includes a modern, fully equipped 30-room student hostel aimed at addressing student housing challenges and fostering a supportive living environment conducive to academic success and safety.
The chairman of the foundation, Most Rev. Ap. Nelson Ogede, emphasised that “in alignment with the vision of the Late Apostle for self-reliance and empowerment, the Foundation has significantly expanded its financial grant programs this year.”
He elaborated on the foundation’s efforts to strengthen the local economy by providing substantial capital to local business owners.
“These non-repayable grants are specifically designed to enhance small and medium enterprises, stimulate economic growth, and create jobs. Additionally, financial support has been extended to high-performing yet underprivileged students, ensuring that financial constraints do not obstruct their pursuit of higher education,” he said.
Ogede also highlighted the foundation’s investment of N7 million in a regional football competition, which served as a valuable platform for discovering local talent and fostering sportsmanship among the youth.
“The total disbursement of N204 million underscores the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to the principle of ‘Humanity First’, a principle dearly upheld by the Late Most Supreme Apostle Matthew Omodayo Owotuga,” he stated.
Mrs. Agnes Ehinmowo (Nee Owotuga), a member of the board of trustees, reflected on this legacy, saying “seventeen years later, our father’s transition remains a catalyst for progress. We honor him not only through ceremonies but by positively impacting lives at OAUSTECH, revitalizing businesses through our grants, and empowering students to continue their education.”
In 2019, the Omodayo Owotuga Foundation also made notable contributions, including the donation of an orphanage to Sacred Heart Hospital in Lantoro, Abeokuta, as well as a modern 300-seat lecture theatre to OAUSTECH in Okitipupa, Ondo State in 2024.
The Matthew Omodayo Owotuga Foundation is dedicated to upholding the philanthropic principles of the late Most Supreme Apostle Matthew Omodayo Owotuga, with a focus on education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. The Foundation is committed to creating sustainable opportunities for the less privileged in society.
