The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has corrected what it described as the frequent misuse of the official appellation of President Bola Tinubu by media organisations and other bodies.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, expressed concern over recurring errors in the way the President’s title is written in publications and official communications.
Akume urged journalists, institutions and members of the public to verify official titles before publication in order to avoid what he described as embarrassing and avoidable mistakes.
“For the record, the correct and official appellation is: ‘His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,’” the SGF stated.
He said the clarification became necessary following an error observed in the naming and appellation of the President in a publication by a national daily on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
According to him, such lapses could be prevented through proper verification from official government channels.
Akume listed the Office’s official communication platforms for verification to include its Facebook handle, @OfficeoftheSGF; Instagram account, OfficialOSGFNG; X handle, OfficialOSGF; and email address, [email protected].
