Troops Neutralise 1 Terrorist, Recover Arms In Kogi Ambush

Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered arms and ammunition during a coordinated ambush operation along identified crossing points in the Adankolo Forest Reserve in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed and released on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists within the general area.

“Acting on credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists within the general area, troops from 12 Brigade Quick Response Group lay in wait at a suspected crossing point in the early hours of Sunday, 10 May 2026,” the statement read.

It added that during the operation, troops made contact with the suspects and engaged them in a firefight.

“During the operation, the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a firefight, neutralising one terrorist while others fled with gunshot wounds into the surrounding bush,” it stated.

The Army further disclosed that a cache of weapons and other items was recovered from the scene following the encounter.

“Following the encounter, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, one fabricated pistol, six magazines and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Other items recovered include one camouflage bandolier, one Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks and the sum of Sixty-Two Thousand, Nine Hundred Naira (₦62,900.00),” the statement added.

The statement noted that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts under Operation TIGER PAW II aimed at curbing terrorist activities and improving security across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.

“The successful operation is part of ongoing efforts by 12 Brigade Nigerian Army under Operation TIGER PAW II to deny terrorists freedom of action and enhance security along major routes and communities within Kogi State and adjoining areas,” it said.

It further revealed that troops are currently conducting follow-up operations in the area to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

“Troops are currently exploiting the general area to track and apprehend the fleeing terrorists,” the statement concluded.
