The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected arms dealer and recovered three fabricated AK-47 rifles during a sting operation in Kano.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

Kiyawa said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad carried out the operation on 9 May 2026, at about 1:15 pm, around Dandinshe Quarters in Dala Local Government Area of the state.

He said the operation was conducted under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori.

According to the statement, the operatives intercepted and arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Umar Danladi Usman, of Kurna Layin Masallacin Juma’a, while driving a tinted ash-coloured Honda Accord vehicle with registration number TFA 680 AA.

The police said items recovered from the suspect included three fabricated AK-47 rifles, five live cartridges, one AK-47 empty shell, a suspected fake police identity card, three jack knives and a pair of jungle desert boots.

Kiyawa stated that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to procuring the rifles from Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

“The suspect is currently in police custody while the investigation is ongoing to arrest his accomplices and dismantle the supply network,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling illegal arms trafficking, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

He also urged residents to provide credible information to the police to enhance security across Kano State.
