President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, expressing Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
Tinubu said Lula’s renewed mandate presented an opportunity to deepen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Brazil, which dates back to 1961.
The president conveyed his congratulations in a statement personally signed by him on Monday, October 26, 2026, in Abuja.
He said Nigeria and Brazil, as two leading nations of the Global South, could work together to promote economic integration and advance their shared interests amid a rapidly changing global order.
Tinubu expressed his desire to expand cooperation between both countries in trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation, and cultural exchange.
He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with Brazil to strengthen multilateral cooperation and advance common priorities across Africa, South America, and the wider Global South.
“Your renewed mandate offers an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Brazil, dating back to 1961,” the president said.
Tinubu further expressed optimism that the two countries could build on their existing relationship to advance mutual interests and unlock new opportunities for economic and diplomatic cooperation.
On behalf of the Nigerian people, he wished Lula a successful new term in office.
