A former chief press secretary (CPS) to immediate past Abia State, Godwin Adindu, has called for fair criticism of Governor Alex Otti by the opposition to avoid hitting up the polity.
Adindu, who is also the publicity secretary of the state chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, stated this during an interaction with LEADERSHIP in Umuahia, the state capital.
He said rather than call them opposition, he would prefer to describe them alternative voices, noting that it is the alternative voices that could even provide a direction for the government.
He also said while everyone cannot be projecting the government, the importance of the opposition must be understood as it serves as a censor agency for the government.
“Our attitude to opposition is that they should come up with constructive and alternative ideas. Not bitterness, not muscling, not misinformation, not heating up the polity unnecessarily.
“But they can provide alternative voice.
They can point to the governor on areas that they think need to be reshaped. What is wrong with that? The government needs that alternative voice.”
“The government does not need misinformation, bitter propaganda, you know, and the kind of thing that is coming up. As we are approaching the election, we need to call our people to order.”
The former CPS explained that under the present administration, the state has witnessed massive transformations in all sectors of the economy which should be commended by all.
‎”When I drive around the Federal Medical Centre, I see the traffic lights, I see the borderlines. When I drive through the Bank Road to the Government House, I saw the entire house being rebuilt.”
