Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday dismissed reports of an alleged alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), describing the claim as “political 419.”
Wike spoke with journalists after inspecting ongoing road projects in Gomani-Yangoje, Kwali Area Council of Abuja, where he accused Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde of misleading the public with claims of a PDP–APM alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“When I say people are fraudulent, they thought I was joking. And that is the 419 we are talking about,” Wike said, insisting that neither the PDP nor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had any knowledge of such an arrangement.
“There is no alliance between the PDP and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), or any other political party. INEC also knows there is nothing called PDP–APM alliance,” he stated.
According to him, ongoing internal processes within the PDP, including the screening of aspirants, demonstrate that the party remains independent and is not engaged in any coalition talks with APM.
“PDP has presented a presidential candidate, and watch out who will be submitted to INEC and see whether there is anything called PDP–APM,” he added.
Wike further alleged that Makinde was using the APM platform to advance his personal presidential ambition.
“What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to be able to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival,” he said.
He maintained that Governor Bala Mohammed had never supported the idea of a PDP–APM alliance, describing the reports as politically fabricated.
“It is unfortunate. We know that has been his game plan, and we would say he cannot fly the flag of the PDP,” Wike added.
The minister also reacted to comments attributed to the governor of Rivers State concerning his political affiliation, insisting that the matter had been misrepresented.
“Sorry for what? Why are you saying problem when nobody has told you he has a problem? The man has told you he still remains APC. So what is the problem now?” he said.
Wike maintained that issues concerning the governor’s political status remain internal party matters that should not be misinterpreted as a crisis.
