The Grassroots Mobilization Network (GMN), a support group aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on Justice Peter Lifu to recuse himself from the case involving the ADC and Nafiu Bala.

The matter is scheduled for hearing on Wednesday.
The suit was initially before Justice Emeka Nwite before it was reassigned to Justice Lifu.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, spokesperson of the group, Mr. Peter Emeka, said the group believes another judge should handle the matter in the interest of confidence in the judicial process.

“We are asking Justice Lifu to recuse himself from this case and allow another judge to take over,” Emeka said.
He stressed the need for the judiciary to remain impartial and urged that opposition parties be allowed to organise and participate in the political process without interference.

According to him, the group’s position is based on its desire to see confidence maintained in the administration of justice.

Emeka also called on opposition parties to continue engaging within democratic processes.
