Campus Initiative Encourages Students To Monetise Digital Skills

The Yakubu Gowon University (formerly the University of Abuja) has hosted a digital skills initiative as part of the Future Forward Campus Tour, designed to help students earn income from their skills before graduation.

The initiative, led by Skola Konnect, is designed to help undergraduates build portfolios, gain experience and earn money through their digital skills without waiting until graduation.

Co-founder of Skola Konnect, Obehi Ogbeide, speaking during the event at the institution, said that the platform is built around the idea of early financial and professional independence for students.

Ogbeide said the platform allows students to monetise skills such as graphic design, video editing and social media management while still on campus.

“Scholar Connect is a digital platform where university students can earn money, build their portfolio and grow their experience while still in school. They don’t have to wait until they graduate to start earning or building experience.”

The co-founder noted that the platform also helps students graduate with verifiable experience that can be presented to employers and clients.

“We are launching this platform at the University of Abuja. We have previously had an activation at Bayes University, and now we are bringing it here. More campus activations are coming across Nigeria.”

Ogbeide advised students to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that it would ease financial pressure while also building professional competence.

“This will help students earn money,  support themselves in school, and reduce financial burden at home. It also helps them build experience and professional etiquette through real client interaction.”

Another partner at the event, David Chinedum Paul, representative of Sapphital Limited, said the platform is a youth empowerment tool similar to global freelance marketplaces.

“Basically, this is about empowering the youth. We have created a platform similar to Fiverr, where students can offer services like flyer design, video production and other digital tasks.”

Paul explained that clients can post job requests, and that students registered on the platform can apply and deliver services.

“When someone has a job, they can post it. A student who can do it will connect, and the job is done.”
