A total of 27,000 women petty food vendors are targeted to benefit from the N879,965,000 empowerment grant approved by the Jigawa State Executive Council.

The state commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, revealed this during a briefing to reporters on the outcome of the state executive council meeting.

He said the programme is part of the state government’s initiative to strengthen the food bank and enhance social and economic empowerment in the state.

The Commissioner noted that the beneficiaries will be selected from across all political wards in the state, to empower small-scale food vendors to improve their businesses.

The Commissioner, however, revealed that the council has approved an N167 million credit loan to the Association of Motorcycle Riders (A MORON), under which each selected beneficiary will receive N3.7 million with a three-year repayment period.

Hon. Sagir further revealed that a credit loan of N261.2 million was also approved for the National Association of Transport Owners (NATO) Jigawa State branch for the purchase of 5 Hilux buses, 10 Sharon vehicles, and 5 Gulf cars for the benefit of its members.
