A former Nigerian Olympian Yusuf Alli has praised teenage sensation Toheebat Adebisi Jimoh following Team Nigeria’s gold medal-winning performance in the mixed 4x400m relay at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
Alli, who currently serves as chief executive officer of the Podium Performance Commission, commended the entire Nigerian relay team for displaying composure, determination and tactical discipline during the race.
However, the former long jump star reserved special praise for Toheebat, whose performances have continued to attract attention after her impressive displays at both the World Relays and the ongoing continental championships.
According to Alli, the teenager showed remarkable maturity and confidence despite competing on one of Africa’s biggest athletics stages.
“All credit must go to the athletes and coaches for the incredible job they are doing,” Alli said. “Winning gold at this level is never easy, but what impressed me most was the confidence and maturity shown by young Toheebat Adebisi Jimoh.”
“For a teenager to perform with such composure on a stage like the African Championship speaks volumes about her future,” he added.
Alli noted that the emergence of young talents such as Toheebat represents a positive sign for the future of Nigerian athletics. He stressed that the country is gradually rebuilding a new generation capable of competing strongly on the global stage.
“The future of Nigerian athletics lies in the youth,” he stated. “They are proving that Nigeria still possesses enormous talent capable of competing with the very best in the world.”
Nigeria’s victory in the mixed relay has further boosted the nation’s medal hopes in Accra as Team Nigeria continues to produce encouraging performances across multiple events at the championships.
