Baba-Ahmed Insists APC Defeat Possible In 2027 Elections

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said it is possible to unseat President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, arguing that worsening national conditions have already weakened the ruling party’s grip on power.

Baba-Ahmed, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said the APC government has “made its defeat easy” through policies that, according to him, have worsened hardship and insecurity across the country.

He said the PRP is fully prepared for the 2027 elections and will work with other political actors to achieve what he described as a collective objective of removing the APC from power.

According to him, opposition figures such as Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, remain potential allies but could not join the PRP due to disagreements over presidential ticket demands.

He stressed that the PRP’s presidential candidate will emerge strictly through party congresses or a national convention, insisting that no aspirant can impose themselves on the party structure.

Baba-Ahmed also ruled out any cooperation with the APC in 2027, saying his resignation from government as a presidential adviser underscored his political stance.

He said the PRP would place greater strategic focus on securing seats in state assemblies, the National Assembly, and governorship positions rather than concentrating solely on the presidency.

“If we have half the House of Assembly made up of PRP people, by 2031 we believe that PRP will win every election we contest,” he said.

He added that while removing the APC in 2027 remains a central objective, it would require collaboration among opposition parties and a reduction in internal rivalries.

“It’s one of our major agendas… we are looking for every legitimate opportunity to do so,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed was more direct in his assessment of the current administration, accusing the APC of worsening living conditions.

“He has messed up this country. He has made life miserable, more insecure. Nigerians are desperately unhappy,” he said.

He argued that the APC has been weakened by internal crises and disputed primaries, which he said present an opening for the opposition.

Baba-Ahmed also described the PRP as Nigeria’s most ideologically driven political party, pledging that it would prioritise competence, integrity, and accountability in leadership if elected.

“We commit to restoring dignity, competence, integrity and efficiency to leadership,” he said.

He added that a PRP-led government would prioritise national security, claiming it could restore stability within one year in office.
