The Kano State Censorship Board has suspended two Kannywood actors, Amina Uba Hassan and Adam Garba, from all filming activities in the state for one year over their alleged involvement in the release of an immoral video.

The board said the action followed what it described as a violation of censorship regulations guiding the entertainment industry in Kano, noting that the video had generated tension across communities.

Spokesperson of the board, Abdullahi Sulaiman, disclosed this in a statement, stressing that the suspension was part of efforts to safeguard public morality and uphold established standards in the Kannywood industry.

According to him, the board acted within its legal mandate to regulate and enforce compliance among practitioners operating within the state.

“The board has the legal authority to suspend any actor or actress found violating censorship laws within the geographical territory of Kano State,” the statement read.

He warned that any attempt by the affected actors to flout the suspension order would attract serious legal consequences, including possible court sanctions.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the board, Abba El-Mustapha, urged stakeholders in the Kannywood industry to avoid actions that could damage the sector’s image and credibility.

He called on producers, directors and other practitioners to strictly adhere to the directive, emphasising that compliance was mandatory.

El-Mustapha further stressed that the board would not hesitate to enforce disciplinary measures against individuals or groups found undermining censorship laws.
