The Yobe East Senatorial District has affirmed Governor Mai Mala Buni as the sole APC Senate candidate in the zone for the 2027 general elections.

The ceremony took place at the Council for Arts and Culture in Damaturu, drawing participants from the Zone A constituency.

Speaking while accepting the candidature, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to the people of Yobe East for generously purchasing the nomination and expression of interest forms for the senatorial seat.

Similarly, in Sokoto State, serving senators in the three senatorial districts were returned unopposed.

The exercises, held across Sokoto Central, Sokoto North, and Sokoto South/East zones, were supervised by an election committee deployed from the APC National Headquarters.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other relevant authorities monitored the process.

In Sokoto North, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko was affirmed as the party’s sole candidate. The affirmation took place at the APC Secretariat on Sultan Abubakar Road in Sokoto.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for Sokoto North Senatorial District, Barr. Nasiru Muhammad Binji, who also serves as the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, said the exercise complied with the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and APC regulations.

“Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko was the sole aspirant who submitted expression of interest and nomination forms for the position. He was screened and cleared by the party and is hereby declared the sole candidate to contest the seat,” Binji said.

Senator Abdullahi Danbaba Dambuwa was affirmed for Sokoto South, while Alhaji Umar Ajiya was affirmed for Sokoto East Senatorial District.

Leader of the delegation from the APC National Headquarters, Hon. Hadi Ukashatu, commended the peaceful conduct of the affirmations across the state.

Speaking after his affirmation, Senator Wamakko expressed gratitude to God and to the people of Sokoto State for their support and prayers. He also called on citizens to pardon any shortcomings, noting that both he and Governor Ahmad Aliyu “are human and capable of mistakes.”

The event was attended by Governor Ahmad Aliyu; his deputy, Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir; Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga; members of the National and State Assemblies; former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo; former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Hassan Muhammad Nasiha Gusau; and APC State Chairman, Alhaji Haruma SG Adiya, among other party stakeholders.

The APC said the affirmation process reflects internal consensus within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
