Meremu Okara has expressed deep disappointment following the relegation of Bayelsa United from the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The Prosperity Boys, alongside Wikki Tourists, have already been confirmed among the teams dropping to the second division ahead of the final round of fixtures this weekend.
Two additional clubs are still expected to join them after the conclusion of Matchday 38.
Reacting to the disappointing campaign, Bayelsa United technical adviser Okara admitted that several issues contributed to the team’s poor performances throughout the season.
“Honestly, we are not happy as we feel sad that we are relegated, which is not a good experience,” Okara told Frontpage Sport.
“The management, the players and the coaches are all sad with the development.”
Bayelsa United struggled for consistency during the campaign and failed to gather enough points to escape the relegation zone despite efforts to improve results in the closing stages of the season.
The club will conclude their season with a fixture against Kwara United this weekend, although the outcome will no longer affect their relegation status.
Relegation marks a major setback for the Yenagoa-based side, who will now shift focus towards rebuilding and preparing for life in the second tier next season.
