The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed Hon. Usman Adamu Sufi as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Bauchi State, following a special delegates congress held on Sunday at the party secretariat.

The exercise, conducted under the Abdulrahman Mohammed faction, was supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC) , with delegates drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state in attendance.

Chairman of the PDP Governorship and State House of Assembly Primary Election Committee for Bauchi State, Yusuf Doma, said the process was carried out through voice votes and affirmation, as Sufi was the sole aspirant in the race.

Declaring the result, Doma said, “I, Yusuf Doma, having certified that Usman Adamu Sufi scored the highest affirmation through voice votes and fulfilled the requirements of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the PDP Constitution and electoral guidelines, hereby declare him winner of the primary election and the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Bauchi State.”

He also announced that all PDP candidates for the State House of Assembly had been elected in their respective constituencies in line with party guidelines.

Doma commended party members for their loyalty, expressing confidence that the PDP would secure victory in all elections it contests in 2027.

In his acceptance speech, the governorship candidate, Usman Adamu Sufi, thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him, describing the endorsement as a major honour.

He pledged to prioritise education and healthcare if elected governor, describing both sectors as critical to the development of Bauchi State.

Sufi also expressed optimism that the PDP would win across all elective positions in the 2027 general elections, citing the strength of the party’s candidates.

Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Kassim Toro, said the party remained united and fully prepared for the 2027 elections, adding that it would rely on its grassroots structure to mobilise support across the state.

He urged members to intensify door-to-door campaigns to strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Senatorial Primary Election Committee, Alhaji Ali Ibrahim, announced the emergence of candidates for the three senatorial districts following primaries conducted on May 20, 2026.

He said Dabo Danjuma Adamu emerged for Bauchi South through affirmation, while Abdulkadir Adamu secured the Bauchi North ticket after scoring 137 votes to defeat Maula Adamu Aliyu.

Bello Ibrahim was also affirmed as the PDP candidate for Bauchi Central Senatorial District.

Ibrahim said the primaries were conducted in line with the party’s constitution and the 2026 Electoral Guidelines, adding that the exercise was peaceful and transparent.
