Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command have uncovered a major drug trafficking network in Lagos, recovering illicit substances valued at about N7.8 billion in a coordinated raid involving the Special Protection Unit (SPU) and divisional police detectives.

The operation, which targeted a residential apartment within an estate in Mende, Maryland, led to the arrest of several suspects, including the alleged kingpin, Eke Henry Ifeanyi.

Police said the raid was carried out after months of surveillance on the suspect, culminating in his arrest on May 19, 2026.

The operatives reportedly recovered hundreds of bags of suspected Canadian Loud from the premises during the operation.

Addressing journalists at the scene, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, said the Command had placed the suspect under surveillance for several months before the operation was executed.

He disclosed that during the raid, the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe operatives with N500 million to halt the operation and allow him to relocate the illicit consignment.

According to him, the offer was rejected and immediately documented for further investigation.

Jimoh said the operation reflects the effectiveness of specialised policing units working in collaboration with divisional commands under the coordination of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

Reacting to the development, Disu said the success of the operation demonstrates the impact of deploying officers closer to communities as part of ongoing grassroots policing reforms.

“The success validates the ongoing redeployment of personnel to divisions and units across Lagos and Ogun,” he said.

He added that policing must remain community-focused and emphasised the importance of professionalism, especially in resisting corruption during enforcement operations.

“The professionalism shown by the SPU commander in rejecting a N500 million bribe and following due procedure is the standard we expect,” he stated.

The police confirmed that all recovered exhibits have been documented and will be tendered in court, while investigations continue to uncover other members of the syndicate.
