Civil society organisations and community-based groups, under the coordination of the Civil Society Council for Human and Economic Intervention (CSCHEI), have welcomed the appointment of Ambassador Kayode Are as Nigeria’s envoy to the United States (US).

The groups described the appointment as a positive development which could strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.

They said the appointment of an envoy with experience in security, intelligence, and diplomacy would help deepen bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the United States across critical sectors such as education, health, security, oil and gas, industry, and aviation.

In a statement signed by the coalition’s director-general, Kunle Yusuff, he commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing what it described as “a seasoned security, intelligence and diplomatic leader” as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States of America.

He read, “The appointment of an envoy with direct experience of the US administrative and diplomatic system is a strategic step toward deepening bilateral relations.”

CSCHEI noted that Nigeria’s longstanding relationship with the United States had produced “significant benefits across education, health, security, oil and gas, industry, and aviation.”

The organisation also expressed appreciation to the United States government for accepting Ambassador Aree and facilitating the commencement of his diplomatic mission.

“CSCHEI also extends appreciation to the Government of the United States of America for accepting Ambassador Kayode Are and facilitating the commencement of his diplomatic mission,” the statement added.

According to CSCHEI, its development partner, Africa United Congress USA, confirmed that Are’s “credentials, professional record, and reputation for integrity position him to advance Nigeria’s interests effectively in Washington.”
