The Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai has issued a security advisory warning residents of Borno and the North-East over possible attempts by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters to launch attacks during the Sallah celebrations.

The military said credible intelligence indicated that remnants of the terrorist groups may attempt to target civilians using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), particularly in crowded public spaces during the festive period.

In a statement issued on Monday in Maiduguri, the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said troops had already been placed on high alert to prevent any breakdown of security.

He noted that the Command had intensified surveillance operations and deployed personnel to vulnerable locations across the theatre ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2026.

According to him, air and ground surveillance assets have also been activated, while patrols have been strengthened in coordination with sister security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and community vigilance groups.

Uba assured residents that the threats had been anticipated and adequately contained through proactive security arrangements.

He advised members of the public to take precautionary measures, including observing Eid prayers in neighbourhood mosques where possible, avoiding large open gatherings, and maintaining heightened vigilance in crowded places such as markets, motor parks, banking halls and prayer grounds.

The military also urged residents to report suspicious persons, abandoned objects or unusual movements to the nearest security formation, while warning against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

The Command further called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations and community stakeholders to support ongoing security operations by encouraging timely reporting of credible intelligence.

Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure festive period, adding that troops remained fully prepared to deny terrorists any freedom of action across the region.
