There was pandemonium in the Oshodi area of Lagos State on Monday following an attack on a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, popularly known as Omo’omolo.

Ogundipe was reportedly attacked by suspected hoodlums while on his way to address supporters who had gathered at his office over an alleged fake list circulating in the media concerning the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I.

According to eyewitness accounts, the lawmaker was trailed from Charity Bus Stop by four masked men riding on two motorcycles before they intercepted his vehicle around the Apakun area of Oshodi.

The attackers allegedly wielded stones and cutlasses, smashing the windshield and side windows of his vehicle. The driver reportedly sped off, preventing what could have escalated into a more tragic incident.

A statement issued by the lawmaker’s media team alleged that the attackers were heard shouting in Yoruba: “Na you dey drag with Kendoo abi? You go take wotowoto,” suggesting the assault may be linked to political tension surrounding the disputed primary outcome in the constituency.

Ogundipe was said to be physically shaken and traumatised after the attack and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Lagos.

The Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Hon. Kayode Tinubu, who reportedly took him to the hospital, condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate and dangerous for peace in the area.

He expressed concern that political disagreements within the same party could degenerate into violence, warning against any attempt to return Oshodi to an era of unrest.

The incident has been reported to the Nigeria Police Force station in Makinde, Mafoluku-Oshodi. Police officers have since inspected the vehicle and the scene of the attack, while investigations are ongoing.
