The Forum of Former Governors (FFG) in Nigeria has congratulated Muslims and Nigerians across the country on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, calling for unity, peace, and renewed commitment to national development.

In a statement issued by the chairman of the Forum and former Niger State governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, the group said the values symbolised by Eid-el-Kabir, including sacrifice, love for humanity, and giving, remain vital to strengthening national cohesion and intergroup relations in Nigeria.

The former governors noted that the festival serves as a reminder of the country’s shared identity despite ethnic and religious differences.

“The objectives of giving, happy felicitations, sacrifice to God and love for humanity that it signifies is one of the cardinal templates of practice for laying a foundation for intergroup cooperation and relations, national growth and unity in a developing nation like ours,” the statement read.

According to the Forum, the celebration, which cuts across tribes and religions in Nigeria, underscored the importance of togetherness and mutual appreciation among citizens.

“The celebration which cuts across all tribes in Nigeria, where Muslims and non-Muslims are, reminds us of our oneness and togetherness as a nation. It is therefore an opportunity for us to appreciate and celebrate with one another, as a people bound in love and togetherness,” the Forum stated.

The group also acknowledged the sacrifices Nigerians continue to make amid current economic and social challenges, urging citizens to uphold the virtues of peace, compassion, and care for the less privileged.

“The Forum appreciates the enduring cost of national growth and the sacrifices and use this opportunity to call on all Nigerians to continue to embrace principles of peace, love and care for the needy that it symbolise and epitomise, and continue to pray for unity, peace, progress and great future for our nation,” the statement added.

The Forum further prayed for national peace and prosperity as Muslims commemorate the festival.

“May our sacrifices be accepted by Allah. May the blessings of Eid-el-Kabir fill the heart of Nigerians with peace, joy and prosperity. We wish all a joyful Eid-el-Kabir filled with love, happiness and countless blessings of the season,” Aliyu stated.
