Dambazau Officially Assumes Office As Nigeria’s Ambassador To China

‎Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), on Thursday, May 28, 2026, officially assumed office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, marking the formal commencement of his diplomatic responsibilities and a new phase of service to the nation.

‎Demonstrating his characteristic sense of duty, commitment, and leadership, the new Nigeria’s Ambassador wasted no time in settling into his official responsibilities immediately upon arrival at the Nigerian Mission in Beijing. After reporting and being received by Embassy officials, he proceeded to formally take his seat as Head of Mission and commenced engagements in line with his diplomatic mandate.

‎His swift assumption of duty reflects his seriousness of purpose and unwavering dedication to advancing Nigeria’s interests, strengthening bilateral relations, and promoting strategic cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.

Dambazzau, a former Chief of Army Staff and one-time Minister of Interior, was in December, 2025, nominated by President Bola Tinubu as a non-career ambassador. His nomination was part of a broader batch of 65 ambassadorial nominees forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation at the time.

He was subsequently screened and confirmed for the appointment by the Senate about two weeks later. The President later approved Ambassador Dambazau’s posting to China in the first week of March, 2026.
