The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has endorsed its national chairman, Dan Nwanyanwu, as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

This was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting held yesterday in Abuja where party leaders unanimously expressed confidence in Nwanyanwu’s leadership credentials and vision for the country.

Accepting the nomination, Nwanyanwu thanked members of the party for the trust reposed in him and pledged to provide purposeful leadership if elected president in 2027.

“I must thank you for believing in me and for the confidence you have in my ability. I assure you that I will make good use of this mandate,” he said.

The ZLP flagbearer outlined his agenda for Nigeria, identifying national unity, security, anti-corruption reforms, energy development, industrialisation and youth empowerment as key priorities of his proposed administration.

He described national unity as one of the country’s most pressing challenges, noting that ethnic and religious divisions had undermined social cohesion and national development.

According to him, his administration would pursue inclusive governance and policies aimed at rebuilding trust among citizens while strengthening patriotism and national integration.

“Our diversity ought to be a source of strength, but it has been poorly managed. My government will treat national unity as an emergency and take urgent steps to restore trust among Nigerians,” he stated.

On security, Nwanyanwu expressed concern over rising cases of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes, promising a more robust approach to tackling insecurity across the country.

He said his government would improve funding for security agencies, deploy modern technology and enhance the welfare of security personnel to boost operational effectiveness.

The ZLP candidate also advocated the establishment of state and community policing structures, arguing that the current centralized policing system is insufficient for a country as large and diverse as Nigeria.

“If elected, I will equip and direct all security agencies to decisively confront insurgents and criminals. Those arrested will be prosecuted swiftly, while their collaborators and sponsors will also face the full weight of the law,” he said.

Addressing corruption, Nwanyanwu pledged a zero-tolerance approach, describing the menace as a major impediment to national development.

He promised to strengthen anti-corruption institutions, improve transparency in public financial management and introduce preventive measures to curb the diversion of public funds.

“My administration will review existing anti-corruption laws to make agencies more proactive and effective. We will ensure accountability across all sectors of government,” he added.

The presidential candidate also promised comprehensive reforms in the energy sector, lamenting the country’s poor electricity supply despite its vast natural resources.

He called for increased private-sector participation, investment in renewable energy, modernization of the national grid and the exploration of coal resources as part of efforts to boost power generation and distribution.
