Police Rescue 3 Abducted Victims, Discourage Ransom Payment

Zamfara State Police Command has  secured the release of three persons held in captivity and discouraged the payment of ransom to bandits

Confirming the release, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the command’s spokesperson, said the victims were released during surveillance and confidence-building patrols across the state, resulting in another successful rescue operation.

He said, “On 31st May, 2026, at about 1300hrs, a joint patrol team comprising the Motorcycle Patrol Unit, of the 42 Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and members of the Community Protection Guard (CPG), while conducting confidence-building patrols in the highly vulnerable Bingi Forest area of Maru Local Government Area, intercepted and rescued three persons found wandering in the forest.

“The rescued victims were identified as: Yusuf Ibrahim, male, aged 15 years; Basiru Yusuf, male, aged 17 years; andMubarak Ibrahim, male, aged 18 years.

“During debriefing, the victims disclosed that they were abducted in February 2026 from Marabe Village via Kwaren Ganuwa District of Tsafe Local Government Area. They further stated that they managed to escape from their captors and were subsequently found and rescued by the joint security team during the patrol operation.

“The victims were immediately taken to a government hospital, where they received medical attention and were later discharged. Thereafter, they were handed over to the Executive Chairman of Maru Local Government Area, Hon. Muhammad Bello Jabaka, for onward reunion with their respective families.

“The Zamfara State Police Command remains committed to restoring lasting peace and security across the state and urges residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that will aid ongoing efforts to combat criminality.”
