Nigerian gospel singer, Victoria Orenze, has sparked reactions after speaking out against ministers and church members she believes use God’s name for personal gain.

She said she was disappointed by what she described as misuse of faith for personal benefit. Her comments quickly drew attention online.

Orenze also criticised what she sees as the selective praise of government performance. She said some people only call a government “good” when they are directly benefiting from it.

She said:

“Honestly, I am disappointed in some ministers, church goers, who just use the name of the Lord for profit!”

Her reactions stirred up after she said that people often praise a government as “working” when they are personally benefiting from it.

In her words:

“Which government is working? The Nigerian government, politicians, and leaders have failed Nigeria and Nigerians. Period.”

“Those who don’t hear GOD but yet want to speak on HIS behalf! Whenever a few are benefiting from a government, they say the government is working, because they don’t care about the good of the majority of Nigerians; they only care about their pockets and stomachs!!!! GOD CANNOT BE MOCKED!” she added.

Orenze added that anyone saying they know and represent God but support evil and wickedness is after their selfish interest.

“Stomach Christianity! He who the cap fits, wear it!” She concluded.

Many are seeing it as a subtle response to gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori, who had openly spoken about the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, saying that the government and other security agencies were working.
