Bandits have abducted six students of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State.

The incident was confirmed by the Zamfara State Police Command Nigeria Police Force through its spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, who said the attack occurred off-campus at a students’ residence.

He explained that seven students were initially taken away, but one of them escaped, leaving six in captivity.

“Yes, we have confirmed that the incident happened but it was not in the hostel. Seven students were kidnapped off campus though one escaped, so the bandits made away with six students,” Abubakar said.

He added that security operatives had already launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation in the area.

“Presently, our gallant men are combing the area to ensure they successfully rescue them,” he said, adding that an official press statement was being prepared.

The police spokesperson also noted that the Commissioner of Police had yet to approve the formal release at the time of his remarks.

Efforts to reach the school management for comment were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Hon. Mannir Haidara Kaura, confirmed the attack, saying security agencies had begun efforts to secure the victims’ release.

He said the incident had triggered immediate security deployment to the area.

One student, Ibrahim Ahmad, also confirmed that one of the abducted students managed to escape during the attack, while three male and three female students remain in captivity.

A group known as the Concerned Citizens of Kaura Namoda expressed concern over what it described as worsening insecurity in the area, alleging repeated kidnappings by armed groups operating in surrounding communities.

The group referenced earlier incidents, including the abduction of lecturers and other residents, and called for stronger military intervention in the region.

Security agencies, including police tactical units and military forces under Operation Fansan Yamma, are currently conducting joint rescue operations aimed at locating and freeing the abducted students.
