Arsenal stars Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhães and David Raya have been shortlisted for the prestigious Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year Award, following their key roles in the Gunners’ historic Premier League triumph.
The Arsenal trio are joined on the six-man shortlist by Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City pair Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki.
Fernandes heads into the awards race in impressive form after being named the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Footballer of the Year earlier this month. The Portuguese playmaker enjoyed a remarkable campaign, registering a Premier League-record 21 assists as he inspired United to a third-place finish.
For Arsenal, Rice, Gabriel and Raya were pivotal figures in the club’s first league title success in 22 years. Rice dominated midfield with a series of influential performances, Gabriel marshalled the defence with authority, while Raya’s consistency between the posts proved crucial throughout the title-winning campaign.
Haaland once again demonstrated his goalscoring prowess by netting 27 league goals to secure the Premier League Golden Boot, while Cherki impressed in his debut season in England, quickly establishing himself as one of the division’s most exciting attacking talents.
Last year’s winner, Mohamed Salah, claimed the award after scoring 29 goals and leading Liverpool to the Premier League crown.
The winners will be announced at the 53rd annual PFA Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place in Manchester on 25 August.
Meanwhile, Cherki has also been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award, alongside Manchester City teammate Nico O’Reilly, who recently won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi, and promising youngsters Max Dowman of Arsenal and Rio Ngumoha of Liverpool complete the shortlist after impressive campaigns for club and country.
