The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) has announced multiple coaching vacancies for the country’s national teams, inviting qualified candidates to submit applications before the June 30 deadline.
The open roles include Head Coach, Assistant Coach I, and Assistant Coach II for three categories: the senior national team, the junior national team, and the para-badminton team.
A statement released by the federation said it is looking for dynamic, experienced, and results-driven coaches to help elevate Nigerian badminton at all levels and boost the nation’s international standing.
Applicants must hold a coaching certification recognised by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) or the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), or possess an even higher qualification.
Prior experience representing Nigeria or a state in national competitions is required, and any coaching experience at either level will be considered an added advantage.
Additional requirements include computer literacy, strong communication and mentoring abilities, analytical and planning skills, flexibility, and a commitment to professional ethics. Candidates must be aged 55 or younger at the time of application.
Selected coaches will be tasked with discovering new talent, developing players, preparing for competitions, and managing team operations.
Their duties will involve designing training programs, sharpening athletes’ technical and tactical skills, conducting performance analysis, and readying players for domestic and international events.
Beyond technical expertise, the BFN expects national coaches to act as mentors, enforcers of discipline, role models, and strategic planners who help build resilience, confidence, and professionalism in athletes.
The federation also stressed responsibilities related to safety, ethics, administration, and the mentorship of future coaches—including maintaining a positive training environment, encouraging fair play, keeping accurate performance records, and supporting the growth of aspiring coaches.
