The commissioner of police in Taraba State, CP Moorkwap Sebastian Dongshal, has reached out to stakeholders in Karim-Lamido local government for stronger collaboration to tackle recurring communal conflicts in the area.

During a working visit to the area, where he engaged traditional rulers, community leaders, leader of youth groups, alongside other security agencies in the locality, Dongshal inspected police formations and participated in a stakeholders’ security meeting to find lasting solutions to the security challenges in the local government.

He commended police personnel for their commitment despite the security challenges in the area and urged them to remain professional, disciplined and vigilant in carrying out their duties.

Dongshal further reminded the officers of the need to uphold human rights, maintain public trust and demonstrate integrity in all policing operations.

The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Taraba State Police Command to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents that security agencies would continue to work together to contain threats and prevent further violence.

He urged community members to support security operations by providing useful and timely information capable of aiding crime prevention and conflict resolution.

The highlight of the visit was an emergency security meeting held at the Karim-Lamido Local Government Secretariat, where stakeholders deliberated on the recent wave of communal tensions and violent clashes affecting several communities.

The chairperson appealed to residents to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence for sustainable development.

At the end of the meeting, stakeholders agreed on a number of measures, including intensified joint security patrols in vulnerable areas, confidence-building initiatives among affected communities and the establishment of a Karim-Lamido Peace and Reconciliation Committee to address the underlying causes of the crisis.

The resolutions, participants said, are expected to strengthen peacebuilding efforts and foster lasting stability in the local government area.

Some of the participants at the meeting included military representatives, lawmakers, traditional rulers and local government officials as well as traditional leaders in the area.
