The Technical Committee on the conversion of Specialist Hospital, Yola, to the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital, Yola, has held its second meeting, marking another major step toward the realization of the proposed tertiary healthcare and medical training institution.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee and Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Hon. Chubado Mohammed Jada, reaffirmed the commitment of the Adamawa State Government to the successful upgrade of the facility. He stressed the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure that the proposed teaching hospital meets the required standards for medical education, research, and quality healthcare service delivery.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Mubi, Prof. Clement Augustine, commended the initiative and expressed the institution’s readiness to provide the necessary academic and institutional support needed to actualize the project.

The Registrar of the University, Dr. Aminu Alkali, presented the minutes of the previous meeting, after which corrections and amendments were made and subsequently adopted by members.

Presenting the report of the Legal Drafting Sub-Committee, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) and Chairman of the Sub-Committee, Prof. Aliyu Jibrilla, outlined the proposed legal framework for the establishment of the teaching hospital. The presentation generated extensive deliberations among committee members.

Following the discussions, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, advised that copies of the report be circulated to all committee members for further review and input to ensure a comprehensive and legally sound framework.

Also speaking at the meeting, Dr. Dauda Wadinga presented the report of the Technical Sub-Committee, detailing a comprehensive roadmap for the conversion process, including key requirements, implementation strategies, and timelines.

In his observations, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Augustine, emphasized the need for a detailed assessment of existing facilities against the requirements of a standard teaching hospital.

Consequently, the Committee unanimously resolved that the Technical Sub-Committee should undertake a comprehensive assessment of all requirements necessary for the establishment of the Teaching Hospital. This, according to the Committee, will include a thorough evaluation of available infrastructure, human resources, equipment, and services, as well as the identification of critical gaps in line with regulatory and academic standards.

The Committee further directed the Technical Sub-Committee to produce a well-structured, evidence-based, and comprehensive report outlining its findings, recommendations, and implementation roadmap for submission to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for consideration and further directives.
