How To Apply For FG’s Loan To Buy Phones, Laptops: Requirements, Eligibility, Key Details

The federal government has opened applications for its newly launched Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, giving Nigerians an opportunity to acquire laptops, smartphones and tablets through affordable credit.

The initiative, implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, was unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, alongside CREDICORP Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba.

The scheme is designed to expand access to digital devices by allowing eligible Nigerians to spread payments over time instead of paying the full cost upfront. The first phase prioritises locally assembled laptops as part of the government’s push to support local manufacturing.

Here are seven things to know about the programme:

1. Applications are now open

Interested Nigerians can begin the application process by visiting the official C.L.I.C.K.D. portal at credicorp.ng/clickd and selecting the “I’m Interested” option.

2. Applicants must provide personal and employment details

The application form requires applicants to provide:

• State of residence (all 36 states and the FCT are listed).
• Employment status, including salary earner, freelancer, self-employed, business owner, student, job seeker or NYSC member.
• Monthly income (optional), ranging from below ₦100,000 to above ₦1 million.

3. Applicants will indicate digital skills programme affiliation

Applicants are also required to state whether they belong to a recognised digital talent programme. Available options include:

• 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT)
• Andela Learning Community
• Learn2Earn
• ALX Africa
• HNG Internship
• AltSchool Africa
• Genesys Tech Hub
• Other

4. Users can choose the device they need

Applicants can indicate the type of device they want to purchase through the credit scheme. Available options include:

• Laptop
• Smartphone
• Tablet
• Other digital devices

5. Applicants must explain why they need the device

The application allows users to select one or more reasons for requesting a device, including:

• Learning and professional certifications
• Work or remote work
• Freelancing
• Business growth
• School
• Software development
• Content creation
• Other purposes

6. Consent is compulsory before submission

Before submitting the application, applicants must:

• Confirm that the information provided is accurate.
• Agree to be contacted regarding their application.
• Consent to CREDICORP and its partners using their information to determine eligibility.

7. Only selected beneficiaries qualify for the pilot phase

Although the application portal is open, the current 1,000-laptop pilot is limited to beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme.

According to CREDICORP Managing Director Uzoma Nwagba, the rollout began in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries received laptops, while the remaining devices will be distributed to eligible fellows across other states in phases.

However, the application form also lists other digital talent programmes such as Andela Learning Community, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, Learn2Earn, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub, suggesting participants in those programmes may become eligible as the initiative expands, although CREDICORP has so far publicly confirmed only 3MTT fellows for the current pilot.

CREDICORP has not yet disclosed key financing details for the scheme, including:

• Repayment period.
• Required down payment, if any.
